How we celebrate Mooncake Festival as an Asian Canadian

Wishing everyone a happy Mid-Autumn Festival filled with laughter, good food and yummy Mooncakes! 🥮 ———- As a 2nd generation immigrant (aka Jook Sing) with not much family around, I often struggle with what traditions to keep from my Chinese heritage, and what is too “ma fan” (hassle). My parents don’t live nearby and my in-laws, though close to me, are quite assimilated to the Canadian culture and don’t necessarily abide to the Chinese traditions. So without the 1st generation immigrants insistence on keeping up with traditions, I’ll admit it’s a struggle to remember these important celebrations. But I’m trying. I’m trying hard to keep my kids aware of their Chinese roots with whatever I can, introducing them to new foods and fun stories etc. It’s quite the effort, but I find it healing to my inner child to celebrate being Chinese. #mooncake #midautumnfestival #chinesecanadian #asiancanadian #asianamerican #lifewithkids #reclaimingmyculture
