Rwanda Sues UK Over Failed Migrant Deal

Rwanda has filed a case against the United Kingdom at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague over unpaid funds linked to the cancelled migrant relocation agreement. While the UK government scrapped the deal in 2024, calling it a costly failure, Rwanda argues that binding treaty obligations remain and that at least £100 million in scheduled payments is still owed. With both countries having agreed to international arbitration for disputes, the case could become a prolonged legal and diplomatic test over contracts, accountability, and migration policy.
