The Rubbish Heap crew will tell you how accessible the games are to non Japanese speakers and for those learning the language the difficulty level. [episode 041] Tales of Phantasia (PlayStation)(テイルズ・オブ・ファンタジア版評価) The 5th generation eschewed 2D graphics as 3D experiences dominated especially outside of Japan, with a few 2D titles becoming legendary such as Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Street Fighter Alpha 3; but there were many other 2D marvels in that generation that flew very much under the radar, locked in Japan and behind a language barrier. Namco's remaster of their 1994 Super Famicom RPG Tales of Phantasia is one such example. Avenging their slain families and village, Cless and Chester set out to find those responsible for the murder of their loved ones and end up on a world and time travelling adventure to build their abilities to eventually take on the dark shadowy force of Dhaos. But just why is Dhaos waging war on the world, and why are they are fighting, and who even is he? Tales of Phantasia asks some difficult questions of the player that marked the start Namco / Bandai-Namco's long running Tales series of role playing games. With stunning 2D visuals, some 3D updates and enhanced storylines and a character that is no longer an NPC but a recruitable character, is this PlayStation remaster one of the PlayStation's most underrated 2D RPG marvels?
