"Excursion," a television program for young people hosted by Burgess Meredith, from September 20, 1953. Former President Harry S. Truman appears with Dr. Franklin Murphy of the University of Kansas, in Truman's Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank office. Mr. Truman speaks about the atomic bomb, his hope for the future, and the democratic processes which make the United States great. After Truman's segment is a dramatization of Esther Forbes' book, Johnny Tremain, which is about a young patriot during the Revolutionary War. The actors are: Joey Walsh (Johnny Tremain); Richard Kiley (Paul Revere); Gene Lyons (Josiah Quincy); Richard Hylton (Rab Silsbee); Cameron Prud'homme (Merchant Lyte); Don McHenry (Sam Adams); Ed Jerome (James Otis); and Frances Heflin (Mrs. Tremain). The program was produced by the TV-Radio Workshop of the Ford Foundation and aired on NBC. The copyright status is undetermined. This film is part of the Motion Picture series at the Truman Library.
