Welcome to my video of DX Shurikenjin [シュリケンジン] from Shuriken Sentai Ninninger [手裏剣戦隊ニンニンジャー]! Shurikenjin is the first combiner mecha from Ninninger. It is made up from five individual Otomonin [オトモ忍]... 01. Shinobimaru シノビマル 02. Dragomaru ドラゴマル 03. Dumpmaru ダンプマル 04. Wanmaru ワンマル 05. Byunmaru ビュンマル DX Shurikenjin comes with Drago Sword [ドラゴソード] and Drago Shield [ドラゴシールド], which are made up from Dragomaru's tail and wings respectively, as well as the Otomonin Shuriken [オトモ忍シュリケン]. Shurikenjin can be combined into a second mode called Shurikenjin Drago [シュリケンジンドラゴ], which Dragomaru is used as the main body and Shinobimaru takes it's place as the left arm. I will say that this mecha is...interesting. As a toy it is...interesting. On one hand, I enjoy the rare dog mecha but things like the dump truck and train (AGAIN!?!?!?!) are pretty weak. As a concept it's kinda all over the place and pretty played out. The toy is...alright I suppose. I ended up buying the standard release of Shurikenjin, which only comes with the red and blue Shuriken rather than all five. If you are a super collector like me, you are likely going to own all of the Shuriken anyway, so it's kinda pointless to chase after that first edition. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of this one. I really like the Shinobimaru suit...but this toy version just sucks. His arms are in a permanent bend that could have been remedied with a simple joint. On top of this, the likeness is pretty awful. The rest of the Otomonin are...alright I guess since they're pretty much vehicles and animals. This one is just a little bit too incoherent for my tastes. I understand what they were trying, but I don't think the finished product is very good. It feels like the love child of Kakure Daishogun from Kakuranger and Daibouken from Boukenger. Seeing as my main complaint is with the toy portrayal of Shinobimaru, I will say that is otherwise pretty well made. Bandai has atleast done a better job of removing the cheap plastic smell from their newer DX mecha. The paint applications are nicely done and it all combines nicely together to make a solid mecha. So atleast the quality is what you can expect from Bandai these days. So I'm not really sold on this one. It was too damn soon to bring a train into the mix (YOU KIDS STILL LIKE KAMEN RIDER DEN-O!?!?!?!) and I would've preferred something a little more coherent. In the meantime...I hear they came back around and fixed Shinobimaru... I should take a look at that next time.
