11ο Διεθνές Επιστημονικό Συνέδριο I.A.K.E. ΚΟΙΝΟΤΗΤΕΣ ΔΗΜΙΟΥΡΓΙΑΣ Συμμετοχή και πρωτοβουλία στις θεσμικές συλλογικότητες: Κοινωνία, εκπαίδευση, πολιτική διαβούλευση Ηράκλειο, 8-11 Μαΐου 2025 Εισήγηση Reinforcing teenage students communicational skills and critical thinking through AI apps Εισηγήτρια Lazarou Ioanna Περίληψη (Abstract) This study explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into Modern Greek language instruction to enhance communication skills, critical thinking, and digital literacy in a multicultural classroom setting. It is based on the inquisitive approach, the learning by doing method as well as on Critical Pedagogy while conforming to the teaching directions and curricula of Modern Greek Language course. Hence, it prioritises the role of learning how to learn and the equal participation of all students. It aims to enhance language proficiency, promote inclusive education, and encourage ethical engagement with AI technologies. More specifically, ChatGPT is applied in class to enable students to practice by forming questions and adapting communication frameworks, simulating a live discourse Malala Yousafzai as part of the unit about discriminations, The design is based on multimedia resources, group discussions, and collaborative question formulation, with ChatGPT providing simulated responses based on Malala’s speeches and world-wide advocacy. Furthermore, students critically assess the AI-generated responses for content, structure, and linguistic accuracy while reflecting on ethical considerations, such as AI limitations, reliability, and risks of anthropomorphising technology. Results indicate significant improvements in students’ questioning techniques, Direct and Indirect Speech, lexical enrichment, and ability to adjust to specific communication contexts. The intervention particularly benefits students with linguistic challenges (native or of migrant/refugee background), while facilitating their integration and engagement. However, the lack of emotional depth in AI responses and concerns about over-reliance on technology are crucial limitations for the class to confront. The study aspires to contribute to the evolving discourse on AI in education for equitable and inclusive learning while highlighting the need for critical and ethical approaches to its application. Indeed, AI tools can complement traditional teaching methods, preparing students for active, critical and responsible participation in a technology-driven society.
