At a time when many festivals and cultural platforms face economic challenges and cities are renewing their focus on attractiveness, we want to explore what nodes like the Intonal festival (that this panel discussion was a part of) mean for places, regions, and Europe as a whole. What needs and possibilities are there for festivals and network to thrive and develop further? How can planning and policy ensure that cities remain spaces where a diversity of cultural and artistic expressions can emerge, thrive, and meet audiences? These are a few of the questions this panel discussion circled around. Participants: Patric Kiraly, Project manager at Uppsala Municipality and a driving force behind the city’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2029, with extensive experience organizing concerts, clubs, and festivals. Katja Lindqvist, Associate Professor at Lund University, researcher in cultural policy and cultural management, focusing on the cultural sector from a societal and socio-economic perspective. Mathias Nordby, strategic advisor in urban planning and founder of Copenhagen Creative Partnership, working to integrate culture and creative environments into urban development. Moderated by Mathias Holmberg. Organised at Inter Arts Center by Intonal in collaboration with Media Evolution. https://www.iac.lu.se https://www.intonalfestival.com https://www.mediaevolution.se
