Union Station Celebration (09:21) Symphonic Poems on Colorado was written as a celebration of the state’s 150th anniversary. Earning statehood in the United States on August 1, 1876, Colorado is known for its many beautiful landscapes, monuments, and parks. From the high mountains to the low plains, Colorado has sights that will please any traveler's eye. Capturing the entirety of Colorado’s beauty in one piece is nearly impossible, so I chose instead to focus on six landmarks, ranging from the brilliant rapids in Gunnison’s Black Canyon, to the sky-scraping mountains of the Rockies; from the tragedy of the Sand Creek Massacre, to the jubilation of Denver’s Union Station. I have lived in Colorado for my entire life. I was born in Colorado Springs, then later, my family moved to Lamar before I turned 7. This is where I grew up until I went off to college. I have been to many beloved and notable places here in Colorado, including San Isabel National Park, the Sand Creek battlegrounds, and various museums within the capitol of Denver. I love this state and what it has to offer, and can’t see myself wanting to live anywhere else. In the center of the United States, Colorado offers every possible living style you could want, whether you want a big city or a small town, or want to be high in the mountains or low in the plains, this state has just about everything.
