Composer: Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) Arranged by: Gabriel Saldaña (b. 2003) Instrumentation: Clarinet Choir Recording from the CSU-Pueblo Clarinet Choir (dir. Pam Diaz) "Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, From The New World" was written by Romantic composer Antonín Dvořák during his first year in the U.S. as the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America. Dvořák premiered the piece on December 16, 1893 at Carnegie Hall in New York City, NY, with incredible reception from the audience. That evening, the New York Evening Post wrote about the symphony, “Anyone who heard it could not deny that this is the greatest symphonic work ever composed in this country.” This arrangement contains 1 E♭ Clarinet, 4 B♭ Clarinets, 1 Bass Clarinet, 1 Contra-Alto Clarinet, 1 Contrabass Clarinet, and 1 Timpano part. While there are only 8 clarinet parts, there are many divisi throughout the piece, so that the original chords are not lost or sacrificed. I have a great love for this piece. The New World Symphony is an incredible composition, but I love the 2nd movement, the Largo, the most. It’s raw and exposed, with few voices playing the same part at once. The Largo reaches a level of emotion that few other pieces, in my personal opinion, do, and has what I consider to be the most beautiful melody ever written. The orchestration available with a clarinet choir lends itself extremely well to pieces and arrangements like this one, and the beautiful blend of the clarinet family is one I have greatly fallen in love with. ------- Website: http://www.gabrielsaldanamusic.com/ Instagram: https://shorturl.at/5rvID
