What’s going on people, it’s your boy Spainey - currently training for my first ever marathon, London 2026 – and bringing you along for the full journey. This week wasn’t ideal, I started late, got one run in, then caught the flu. Only managed one easy run (which frankly, didn't feel easy). But today we’re back in the lab with an upper body gym session + 9k run to get momentum going again. In this video: 🏋🏾♂️ Upper body workout (bench press, chest-supported rows, incline DB press, lat pulldowns, shoulder press, lateral raises & tricep press-downs) 🏃🏾♂️ 9k run that turned into more of a steady effort (6:22/km average pace) 🦵 Ongoing foot issues & why I might have to switch trainers 👟 Thoughts on rotating running shoes properly 🧠 Using ChatGPT to build my training split 🥶 Post-run recovery: cold plunge, sauna & steam room I also talk about: ✅ Missing sessions due to illness ✅ Managing niggles while increasing mileage ✅ Pull-ups vs lat pulldowns and progressive overload ✅ How YouTube algorithms can make you question everything about nutrition 😂 This marathon build isn’t perfect - but it’s real.
