At the start of afternoon peak on the 26th of February 2025, a car crashed and rolled over on the northbound Mitchell Freeway into the Yanchep Line rail reserve just south of Greenwood Station. Trains were cancelled between Stirling and Whitfords for well over an hour, causing chaos on the network and extreme overcrowding. A similar sudden closure occurred in 2023, which can be viewed here: • Joondalup Line Peak Hour Disruption (... . On this occasion I stayed at Perth Underground. With no Mandurah Line trains arriving for almost half an hour, an extreme crowd had gathered on the platform. The next train was a 6-car A-Series, which got filled to the brim with passengers. The platform announcers stated that the train was going to Mandurah, which I did think was a real possibility considering there had been no trains for so long and kicking all these passengers off at Cockburn Central would just mean they would be stuck there with constant full trains arriving behind the A-Series. Nevertheless, this was false hope, and they still terminated the A-Series, really emphasising how much they want to avoid sending it to Mandurah... Cockburn Central got packed and several more A-Series arrived which all got sent to the siding. I spend some time observing the crowd and the trains, managing to see all three train types at once again. Also, as of posting this video, the C-Series has just had a software update allowing the door buttons to be pressed before arriving at the station like on the A and B-Series, which will hopefully make it much more user-friendly. I mention this when we spot 130 going southbound towards the end of the video. Anyway, overall this was just another typical round of Yanchep and Mandurah service delays which we see all too often nowadays due to a variety of reasons, sometimes out of Transperth's control like this, but quite commonly also due to train breakdowns... We seriously have a shortage of trains and running 3-car B-Series sets and A-Series which can't even run the entire line when required on the two busiest train lines certainly isn't ideal, and it will only get worse with the Thornlie-Cockburn Link testing starting soon. I hope things can be sorted out eventually and delays won't be as common anymore but I think we will still be seeing them for the foreseeable future... DISCLAIMER: This video is simply documenting the crash scene and resulting train operations and delays. My thoughts go to the man who was hospitalised following the incident.
