IUC LIVE: "Reflecting the Sacred: Sacred People" Sunday, Dec 7, 2025 | Rev. Michael Cronin

Beloveds, Perhaps you’ve seen the “Happy Advent, you brood of vipers!” meme. There have been numerous comments that it is particularly germane this year. In these very hostile days when leaders call and treat immigrant communities as “garbage” and division reigns, holding onto the idea that God loves all things and all people are redeemable can seem tenuous at best. And then I think of a friend who says that she tries to “look for that nugget of gold” in everyone. Dr. Marcia McFee of Worship Design Studio writes, “When we look through the lens of the sacred, we prepare our senses to recognize the holy in all people – to come to know them in a ‘steadfast and encouraging’ way. Our world is crying out for harmony, and being able to see the Christ reflected in each other makes a path for this to be accomplished. We are inspired this week to see our own walk upon this earth as part of the call to be sacred people who usher in the presence of love.” On this Second Sunday of Advent, we continue “Reflecting the Sacred” as we return to John the Baptist in the wilderness calling for us to repent and prepare the way. We are called to commitment to move in a new direction, toward righteousness and good, to see the sacred in ourselves and one another. Why does that seem like such a tall order?
