HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 31-year-old man from Chino has been identified as the driver in a deadly incident that occurred Friday evening along Caliente Road, just south of Oak Hill Road in Hesperia. Authorities now say the death was the result of an apparent accident involving alcohol. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Gloria Orejel released a statement Saturday afternoon confirming that Rudy Sanchezbat was behind the wheel of a box truck when the fatal incident occurred. According to Orejel, Sanchezbat and two other men had been traveling southbound on Interstate 15 when they exited to take a break. As the men prepared to get back on the freeway, Sanchezbat—unaware that one of the men was near the vehicle—accidentally ran him over. The victim died at the scene. His identity has not yet been released by the coroner’s office. Sanchezbat remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. A report for vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence (DUI) will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office for review, officials said. The incident occurred around 6:22 p.m. on May 23, 2025, along the southbound side of the freeway near a white box truck belonging to “Champions Express Inc.,” a freight company based in Fontana, California. This remains an active investigation, and additional information will be released when it becomes available.
