Wide of tents STORYLINE: Heavy rains and chilling cold are adding to the challenges faced by displaced people in Gaza who are still reeling from two years of war that have devastated the territory. Living in tents that are not properly prepared for winter and some of which have holes, families are struggling to cope with the arrival of winter, which is expected to worsen in the coming weeks. On Tuesday morning, the tents in Muwasi and their surroundings were soaked after a rainy night. Children walked barefoot as their shoes disappeared in the brown, muddy floodwater that had inundated the makeshift camp for the displaced. “During every storm like this, water penetrates our tents, and our mattresses and blankets get soaked, making the situation complicated” said Mohammed Gharableh, a displaced man from Rafah. Water pooled several inches deep in the tent encampment, and people scrambled to save their soaked furniture and flooded tents. Salha Sheikh El-Eid, a displaced woman from Rafah wholost her husband in the war is now living in the camp at Muwasi. Her tent was flooded with water, and all her clothes were soaked. “We don’t have a single shirt for my son to wear, so we borrowed one from our neighbor,” she told the Associated Press. Aid groups say that Israel isn’t allowing enough aid into Gaza to begin rebuilding the territory after years of war.
