OVERVIEW: Neurotherapy teaches patients to alter their brainwaves in such a way that permanent changes to behavior and attention can occur. Using painless sensors attached to the head, Neurofeedback measures existing brainwaves and creates a statistical map of what needs to change. Neurofeedback therapy can then create long lasting changes to the connections in the brain reducing or eliminating the impulsive actions associated with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and more. OBJECTIVES: By the end of this course, participants will be able to: • Understand the fundamental principles and mechanisms of neurofeedback • Recognize the potential clinical applications and benefits of neurofeedback • Identify the types of conditions that may benefit from neurofeedback therapy • Discuss the current evidence and research supporting neurofeedback • Understand the limitations and contraindications of neurofeedback • Identify reputable sources and practitioners of neurofeedback for referrals • Describe the basic setup and operation of neurofeedback equipment • Understand the ethical considerations in referring patients for neurofeedback • Communicate effectively with patients about the potential benefits and limitations of neurofeedback • Evaluate the appropriateness of neurofeedback as a referral option for their patients BIO: Preston Walker is an experienced therapist specializing in ADHD therapy.
