A group of Cambridge University researchers have made a film alongside people with Down’s syndrome to show that there is only one way we can defeat dementia; Together. Researchers from the Cambridge Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Group (CIDDRG) have been investigating the links between Down’s syndrome and dementia for almost two decades. Most recently, they have focused their efforts on using state of the art imaging techniques to look at the brains and the eyes of people with Down’s syndrome in the hope of finding a biomarker for Alzheimer’s disease. To celebrate World Down’s Syndrome Day (21st of March 2016), the research group opened their doors to the public to share their research findings, and to thank all of the dedicated volunteers with Down’s syndrome for their vital contribution to the work. The making of the film Together has given a voice to people with Down’s syndrome, as well as those who support them, to describe their experiences and show their commitment to helping themselves and others in the future.
