Speakers: Andy Chitty Justine Kigenyi Jen Prissel Alexa Van Dalsem Ben Wright In many cases, core directors and staff view their institution’s contracts and grants offices as a black box, only to be occasionally contacted to submit an equipment grant proposal, deal with a compliance issue, or address core facility involvement in a PI’s proposal. Likewise, many central contracts and grants offices view core facilities as entities that exist on grant proposals and may or may not actually exist in the real world. During this session, a panel of experts with varying perspectives will discuss the importance of fostering relationships between core facilities and institutional central offices. Representatives from Oregon Health & Science University will discuss their Research Administration Partner Pods (RAPP) program - an innovative approach to central office support for core facilities. Representatives will discuss how this program was built at OHSU and continues to grow. Speakers from the University of Kansas Medical Center and UNC Chapel Hill will also provide input on how similar structures at their institutions could aid in core facility administration. Attendees will gain valuable insight from different institutions on how core facilities can productively interact with institutional central offices, and how these central offices can prove to be an invaluable resource to core facility administration, management, and operations. Speakers will discuss how core facilities can advocate for themselves and give helpful tips for how core facilities can best interact with their institutions’ central offices.
