I made a video before two of these lathes, the green and Uni machines, were brought up to the "club meeting". My intent was really (partially) to show that it is possible to scrape the beds as well as show the different wear on 3 such old machines or shall I say, lack of maintenance vs. proper care and how this has a profound effect on the usefulness of the machine. As is evident, I did not fully restore these machines, mainly dealing with the geometry ie. alignment as well as the surface properties of the different sliding- and static parts. The time constraint I had burdened myself with ie. the club meet, also meant that I had less time than ideal so some of the parts /purchase exchange was left out and not all was therefore "fixed". Not any major flaws, and as explained here in the video, for example a new of bushings for the leadscrew and apron on the green lathe, are easily handled by a new owner. I had also decided that I wouldn't go for a strip-down & re-paint job, so the machines are not cosmetically restored (apart from the worst parts on "the grey machine" which have had a really sub-standard repaint job done to it at one point in time). The original paint on the "University machine" was quite OK and the "green" wasn't too shabby either (despite the choice of a non-standard green color that the previous owner had given it..) PS! My intention is also to make a video on restoring, testing and "setting up" an ML7 headstock as I think this can be of value to many users of this type of lathe
