Filmed live at Paleo f(x)™ Austin 2016. My story. This picture that I have here, this is the actual pic of the car that I was I got a wreck in. I was 21 and when they found me, and they took me to the hospital, they said the prognosis was that I had a broken arm, a broken neck, minimal brain dysfunction and onset of paralysis. I spent two months in the hospital and it was very, very difficult. But the part that was so difficult was that I knew that I was broken. I knew that my mind didn’t work. While my mind isn’t working, I knew. And the diagnosis of minimal brain dysfunction is one they give when you are functioning, you just can’t think straight. You just don’t know how to understand the environment, and that’s what I had. And I knew that I needed to often I optimize I needed to do whatever I could get back to thinking properly. So, I started to looking out. What would it take to optimize my mental functioning? And as I did so, I started thinking what are the limits to my mind? How far can I go? And that’s what I am going to share with you today. What I did, what’s my story. And I think it’s relevant for everybody. So the mind and the brain: how are they related? The picture you see up here is that of a stream bed and a stream. This is, I think, really a good analogy of how we can talk about the connectivity and the relationship between the mind and the brain. You see for me, the brain is a substrate. It’s the stream bed with the rocks and the twigs and all the other physical objects within it. And it and the water in the stream bed is the mind. You see for me, the stream bed doesn’t have any relevance without the water that is within it. And the mind, or the water here, cannot go any place efficiently without the stream bed. So, once again I really want to press up forward with this idea of connectivity. So for me, if you will permit me to give this definition, I believe the optimum mental function is about purposely engaging with your mind such that your mind acts and your brain reacts in your best interest. And this is really important because it’s about you. It’s not about comparing yourself to anybody else. Not to me, your mother, Einstein, anybody. It’s about understanding how far can you go in your own best interest? And so we’ll talk about that. You do have the tools at your disposition already, and these tools are located within your mind. You just have to know how to access access them and utilize them.
