Location: Big Island Township Hall System: Marion County Test time: Last Saturday of the month at noon Enthusiasts present: Tommy (@buckeyenotifications), Benicio (@CentralOHSirens), Dominic & Jeremy (@SuperSirex127), Michael (@mysst1c_) Ah yes, the infamous Big Island Thunderbolt has returned from the dead...somewhat. After Tommy went to a 4004 in the county last month, he decided to check out a few other sirens after, and that included this Thunderbolt. Upon arriving here, he noticed the horn had finally changed directions after not moving at all for nearly 4 years, and we had also heard that the county was doing some maintenance on some of the sirens outside the city of Marion a few weeks prior, so Tommy and I, along with a few other enthusiasts, decided to risk this 'bolt for the last Saturday of May. On the way here, we saw that people were saying they didn't hear the Big Island siren for last month's test, so we were beginning to wonder if something was wrong with it. Despite this, we stuck with our plan, and sure enough, we heard the tones for the electromechanical sirens go through, and this thing finally wound up. However, the blower turned out to be busted, which would explain why people couldn't hear it. This is probably tied with Jackson, MI as the quietest 'bolt I've heard. Despite how underwhelming this test was though, the meetup was still pretty fun. Hopefully they will fix the blower on this at some point, because it would be pretty cool to hear it roar like it should again. Enjoy!
