Rios Family Friday Reading is a monthly, school-based family engagement event designed to strengthen early literacy outcomes and reinforce meaningful home–school partnerships. Families are invited to campus to learn research-aligned strategies for supporting reading at home while participating in structured, developmentally appropriate literacy activities alongside their children. By engaging families and community partners, the event promotes shared responsibility for literacy development and emphasizes the critical role of home support in a child’s academic success. Families also receive high-quality take-home resources, including free books, to encourage continued literacy practice beyond the school day. Through this consistent, school-wide focus, reading is celebrated as a foundational skill, fostering student confidence and a positive literacy culture. As a Community School supported by the Community Schools Grant, Rios Elementary uses Family Friday Reading to ensure equitable access to literacy supports, strengthen community connections, and promote long-term student achievement.
