Facebook: Striker Charter www.striker.co.nz email: strikerseacharter@gmail.com Please Subscribe Deepwater fishing in the Bay of Plenty aboard Striker Charter is an exciting experience. Here's a detailed overview: Fish Species The Bay of Plenty offers diverse deepwater fishing opportunities. Some commonly targeted species include: Bluenose (Hyperoglyphe antarctica): A prized species in deeper waters, often found at depths of 200–500 meters. Hapuku (Groper) and Bass: Found in deeper reefs and pinnacles, they are excellent for sport and eating. Gemfish: Common in deeper waters, known for their elongated body and fighting spirit. Kingfish: While more common in shallower areas, they can sometimes be caught in deeper waters. Swordfish: A target species for experienced anglers in very deep waters during specific seasons. Tarakihi: Found on the drop-offs and reefs, offering good fun and eating. Seasonal Fishing Times Spring (September–November): Bluenose and Hapuku start to become more active as the water warms. Summer (December–February): A peak season for deepwater fishing, with calm seas and a variety of species available. Swordfish are often targeted during summer nights. Autumn (March–May): Another excellent time for Bluenose, Hapuku, and Bass. Winter (June–August): While weather can be rougher, deepwater species like Hapuku and Bluenose remain accessible and often bite well. Electric Reels Electric reels are highly recommended for deepwater fishing due to the depths involved. Benefits: They save time and energy when fishing at depths of 200+ meters, allowing you to target multiple fish quickly. Popular Models: Shimano Beastmaster, Daiwa Tanacom, and Miya Epoch are commonly used due to their reliability and high drag capacity. Striker Charter Gear: Confirm with the operator, but most charters provide or recommend electric reels for deep-drop fishing.
