Let's face it. There's something real to be said for "me time" when you're surrounded by little people on the regular. I'm fairly certain I'm not the only mom who has a train of talkative kids shadowing her from room to room throughout the house (with no single room left off limits 😳). So, personally I find it blissful to sneak away and squeeze my workouts in when the kiddies are otherwise occupied. But here's what I often consider. If I want to give them the active advantage as early as possible (and I do), I NEED them to see me in exercise action and enjoying it on a regular basis. I certainly don't want them to adopt the pervasive exercise-is-drudgery mindset as they grow. Besides, I can't deny that my children are notably happier, more affectionate, and bursting with positive energy when I put my solo workout routine aside to share playful exercise with them instead. Meanwhile I'm left feeling like a big kid again. Long term, a regular exercise habit will increase cognition, boost emotional wellbeing, decrease our risk of cancer, and so much more. It's optimal living MAGIC!✨ Over the weekend, I didn't have to ask twice if my super kids wanted to help me make a little exercise video. And as I pointed my smartphone at my proud little babies, eager to demonstrate their inventive moves, I realized so many of us could benefit from a reminder that we were never meant to outgrow a love of playful movement. In honor of National Stress Awareness Month, I invite you to let your children know you need their help to be your healthiest self, and take this challenge! ❤️👟 THE TRAIN LIKE A KID CHALLENGE: Ask your child to imitate three to five very active insects or animals (sloths don't count) and to teach you the movements using their whole body. Older kids may not need the theme guidance but might still enjoy the challenge of designing a workout plan for and with you. Together, to the sound of your favorite tunes, stitch a fitness routine together with the movements. Do each movement for thirty seconds before moving on to the next. You've finished one round when you've done 30 seconds of each. Can you do that for 10 rounds without a break? That's the challenge. We'd love to see the exercises your littles come up with and the smiles on their faces as you let them lead you in movement. Remember, they're watching you. So, move by example!
