The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) hosted “Real Science, Not Résumé Science,” a cost-free Zoom session for high school students on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 5:00-6:15 p.m. ET. Watch this recording of STEM Lyceums to learn about the importance of finding a problem you genuinely care about, designing rigorous methods, documenting everything you did (and did not do), and communicating results with integrity. Distinguished speaker: Uma Sthanu is an internationally recognized young scientist at the intersection of computational biology and neuroscience. She is a 2025 alumna of CEE’s prestigious Research Science Institute (RSI) who also earned top honors at the 2025 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), winning the inaugural Mary Sue Coleman Award for Life Science Innovation and a First Award in Biomedical Sciences. Her research spans wet-lab and computational domains: from culturing neurons to study regeneration, to building mathematical models of disease progression (ISEF 2024 Grand Award in Mathematics), to applying single-cell RNA-seq and deep learning models. Beyond the lab, Uma mentors peers, speaks on the importance of resilience and curiosity in science, and has excelled in DECA’s International Career Development Conference (ICDC), winning multiple awards. This online seminar is offered through CEE’s STEM Lyceums, a virtual club for high school students to learn about STEM professions and career pathways. It is provided at no cost to schools, teachers, and students. Meetings foster critical thinking skills, encourage excitement for science, and prepare students to enter college and STEM careers. Companies, foundations, and individuals interested in sponsoring future STEM Lyceums are encouraged to contact CEE. For more information, visit https://www.cee.org/programs/stem-lyc.... The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) hosted the event. CEE, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was founded in 1983 by the late Admiral H.G. Rickover and Joann P. DiGennaro, President of the Center. The Center’s mission is to nurture high school and university scholars to careers of excellence and leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and to encourage collaboration between and among scientific and technological leaders in the global community. CEE sponsors the Research Science Institute (RSI), USA Biolympiad (USABO), Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP), and STEM Lyceums. CEE programs are provided cost-free to participating students and teachers, thereby leveling the playing field for economically disadvantaged students. The Center works closely with donors.
