SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Tuesday, March 3, 2026 — Santa Monica police officers arrested two men Tuesday at the Santa Monica Pier after officers determined they had been camping on the pier, an activity prohibited under city regulations. Officers contacted the two men while conducting routine patrol activity on the pier. During the encounter, officers determined the individuals were using the public area as a place to camp. Camping in public spaces, including the pier, is prohibited under Santa Monica Municipal Code §4.08.095(a), which restricts the use of tents, bedding, or other materials for living accommodations in public areas. According to the Santa Monica Police Department’s arrest log, one of the men was taken into custody on suspicion of violating Santa Monica Municipal Code §4.08.095(a), which prohibits camping in public places. The second man was arrested on a Santa Monica bench warrant. Both men were placed in handcuffs and transported from the pier in separate Santa Monica police vehicles without further incident. The Santa Monica Pier remains one of the city’s most heavily patrolled public areas due to its high visitor traffic and ongoing public-safety enforcement efforts.
