Original Choreography by Danji Lian ’27 Come evening-tide, we rise with the moon and battle until the break of dawn. 連 is AADT's first traditional-fusion set featuring Okinawan karate and kobudō choreography along with elements of open-style techniques. We come to you as newly-minted weaponmasters, with the sai—a trident-like melee weapon with roots in Okinawa, Japan and Southern China. Inspired by the lotus, 蓮, which blossoms from the mud, this piece honors not only the ferocious grace of martial artists whose spirits and craft are forged from hours on the mat, purpling bruises, aching muscles, rough calluses, and mental fortitude, but also the enduring resilience of individual stories and collective families. Like the 蓮花, we bloom with shades of vulnerable pink and pure white, the zen within the clamor of the world. Join our rank of warriors as we wield the sais, quicksilver in our hands, surviving the night into the sunrise. "ZEN" by JENNIE reminds us of our unshakable souls and untouchable auras in the fading twilight, followed by "LIT" by LAY, a midnight of turmoil as we contend with the seduction of our own doubts and failures. "Last Blood" brings a climactic push until dawn, golden threads of our endurance, brilliant and strong.
