Wilma is an adult female Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who got herself snagged on a tiny sticky-out bit of wire on power lines. She also managed to avoid touching 2 lines, and avoided killing herself. All in all, she was a lucky girl. The energy company was able to come to free her quickly. She is in care, and doing well. The injuries are barbed wire type constriction injuries - the bat get snagged, panics and tries to free itself, twisting and somersaulting, till it's irretrievably caught. The membrane damage is from the constriction of the blood supply, leading to membrane death. Because the damage is at the trailing edge, and much of the tissue there is already dead, she will lose a scoop of membrane to the tissue death, but should have enough to be able to fly again afterwards. she is doing well in care. Update: She has survived 4 days in care. She is eating well and hanging and doing all the things she's supposed to be doing.
