Altınbeşik Cave: A Unique Underground Lake Reached by Boat

Altınbeşik Cave is located within the borders of İbradı district in Antalya and is one of the rare caves in Türkiye that can be entered by boat. Situated on the slopes of the Taurus Mountains, the cave stands out with its large underground lake and multi-level structure. Access to the cave is provided via small boats on the natural lake at the entrance, and the visit is carried out under the guidance of a guide. The underground lake on the lowest level of the cave is turquoise in color and remarkably clear. The water depth varies by area but is generally between 9 and 15 meters. According to some sources, the depth can reach up to 30–40 meters at deeper points. The section open to visitors is limited to this lower level, where the water level remains stable. During rainy seasons, entry to the cave is prohibited. At these times, powerful water siphons form, causing high-volume water to gush forcefully from the cave entrance. Altınbeşik Cave has a three-level structure. The lower level is permanently filled with water and is the section explored by boat. The middle level consists of galleries that are seasonally flooded depending on rainfall. The upper level is generally dry and features wide chambers with impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations. These upper levels are not open to tourism and are mainly used for scientific research. The ceiling height of the cave is especially striking at the entrance. Here, the ceiling reaches approximately 40 meters in height, while inside the cave there are chambers with varying ceiling levels, sometimes lower and sometimes much higher.
