The weather was all over the place snowing, windy, sunny in the west ( nice blue sky) , stormy in the east (gloomy clouds), a mist came down in the south ( facing towards the castle) also no close ups of the church, castle and Viaduct rules and all that 😢 Edlingham Castle The castle – more properly a fortified manor house typical of many medieval houses in the North of England – guards one of the few approaches to Alnwick through the hills to its west. Its fortifications were increased in response to the border warfare which raged between England and Scotland in the period from about 1300 to 1600. Edlingham Church St John the Baptist is a mediaeval (11th century) church in Edlingham in the English county of Northumberland. The church is mostly Norman, from two periods, the late 11th – early 12th century and late 12th century.[1] The chancel arch and the south porch, with its rare Norman tunnel vault, are late 11th century, and the north aisle arcade is from the late 12th century Edlingham Viaduct This railway viaduct is located under half a mile north-east of Edlingham in Northumberland, and close to Edlingham Castle. It was built in c.1885 for the North Eastern Railway Company, as part of the former Alnwick to Coldstream (Cornhill) railway, which opened in 1887.[1] Passenger services on the line were discontinued in 1930, although it was briefly in use during the Second World War, to serve RAF Milfield.[2] The line continued to be used for freight, until finally closing in 1965. The track across the viaduct has been removed. Edlingham Railway Viaduct is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
