Having obtained the equation of motion of the rod we can now proceed to find the possible normal modes of longitudinal vibrations of the rod under a proper boundary condition. The normal modes of the longitudinal vibrations of a rod rigidly clamped at one end has been described. The expression for the normal mode frequencies and the displacement of the particles of the rod have been obtained. It’s found that the vibrations consists of only the odd harmonics of the fundamental frequency. All the even harmonics of frequencies are absent.
