Reviews of weather events, natural disasters, astronomical phenomena and wildlife around the world Several powerful storms swept across Europe this week. A strong storm with squalls, thunderstorms and hail hit Greece. The cyclone affected the island of Skiathos, northern Euboea, Crete, and other parts of Greece. On Skiathos, heavy rains flooded streets and the port, vehicular traffic was hampered, and some roads turned into small rivers. Heavy rains also caused serious consequences in northern Euboea. About 86 mm of rain fell in Kymi, and up to 70 mm in Setta and Steni. In the village of Glistera in the municipality of Pyli, a landslide occurred, destroying a section of road. In Lithari Kymi, a section of the road collapsed, prompting authorities to erect warning signs. During the storm, more than 20,000 lightning strikes were recorded in the Sporades, Attica, the Cyclades, and Crete. Additionally, an intense hailstorm was observed in the village of Astritsi on Crete, damaging olive groves, raising concerns for next year's harvest. The first November weather disturbance, which struck northern Italy, then moved toward central and southern Italy. The cyclone brought rain and thunderstorms to the affected regions. In Campania, the combination of unstable air and high humidity created ideal conditions for the formation of waterspouts. Local residents are sharing videos on social media of several waterspouts forming off the shores of the Gulf of Salerno. Fortunately, none of the waterspouts made landfall or caused any damage. A series of autumn floods occurred in Spain due to a Mediterranean storm. Catalonia and the Balearic Islands were affected. Road authorities reported the complete closure of the BP-1413 highway connecting Cerdanyola to Barcelona, as the section was completely flooded. The C-17 highway was temporarily closed, with water covering the roadway for over a kilometer. A park along the Besòs River was closed as the water level rose significantly, overflowing its banks. The Catalan Fire Department received more than 90 calls due to flooding, fallen trees, and short circuits. No injuries were reported, but roads and drainage systems were damaged, and public transportation was temporarily disrupted. In the Balearic Islands, the largest island, Mallorca, was hit the hardest. Localized flooding occurred in Palma, and the port area was also flooded.
