Asking questions is a great way to promote student engagement. But...you need to use the right type of questions. One way to promote student engagement in the classroom is to ask: What makes you say that? This is an excellent strategy to try and probe student thinking. It's a great way to check on students' thinking processes and how they are justifying their responses. Just don't over do it. Don't worry: I cover this in the video.
