Today, I’m taking you on board one of India’s fastest and most modern trains – the Delhi to Lucknow Vande Bharat Express. We’ll be covering everything – from its history, features, fare details, facilities, food, and even the station it departs from. So let’s get started! The Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, is India's first semi-high-speed, fully air-conditioned train. It was developed indigenously by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai under the Make in India initiative. The first Vande Bharat Express was flagged off on 15th February 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Delhi–Varanasi route. Since then, this fleet has expanded rapidly across the country. About the Train – 0:50 The Delhi–Lucknow Vande Bharat Express is one of these new-age trains, offering a perfect mix of speed, comfort, and technology. This train is a semi-high-speed, chair car service and does not have sleeper coaches. There are two classes available: • Chair Car (CC) – standard comfortable seating • Executive Chair Car (EC) – more spacious, premium seating with extra legroom Both classes are fully air-conditioned and come with aircraft-style seats, large windows, and personal reading lights. Facilities Onboard Now let’s talk about the facilities that make Vande Bharat stand out: • Automatic sliding doors • Bio-vacuum toilets • Wi-Fi infotainment system • GPS-based passenger information system • CCTV cameras • Onboard catering with delicious vegetarian meals and beverages • Swiveling seats in Executive Class for a first-class experience • Plug points and tray tables at every seat Cleanliness and hygiene are given top priority, and the coaches are sanitized regularly. Fare and Food As of now, the fare for Delhi to Lucknow on Vande Bharat is approximately: • ₹1,250 for Chair Car (CC) • ₹2,380 for Executive Chair Car (EC) For Delhi to Ayodhya, the Vande Bharat fare is around: • ₹1,465 for CC • ₹2,760 for EC These fares include catering charges. The food generally includes: • Breakfast or snacks • Tea or coffee • A hot vegetarian lunch or dinner, depending on the journey time Train Timings – 2:40 The Delhi–Lucknow Vande Bharat runs six days a week, except Fridays. It departs from Anand Vihar Terminal (ANVT) in Delhi at around 6:10 AM, and reaches Lucknow Charbagh at around 12:20 PM, covering the distance of roughly 512 km in about 6 hours 10 minutes. On the return journey, it leaves Lucknow at 3:20 PM and arrives back in Delhi by 9:50 PM. As of April 2025, there are 51 operational Vande Bharat Express trains across various routes in India. Each train is designed to reduce travel time while offering unmatched passenger comfort. The trains are being introduced phase by phase, connecting major cities, religious places, and regional capitals.
