January 22, 2026. Cusco to Amazon Jungle, Peru Today we Fly to Puerto Maldonado (deep in the lowlands of the Amazon Jungle) and continue by motorized boat to the comfortable and intimate G Lodge Amazon. Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport we were met by G - adventure rep Cesar and then after a brief stop in town to store large luggage. We then had about an hour drive to the pier and travel by covered motorized boat to the jungle lodge. En route, we spotted some bird species typical of the river and forest edge and wildlife. . The Tambopata Rainforest area holds the world record for the most bird sightings in one area. Local community members make up the majority of lodge staff, including multilingual naturalist guides. We were able to the opportunity to learn about the area’s rich flora and fauna and locals' extensive use of medicinal plants and other forest plant resources through traditional techniques for building, fishing, and hunting. After dinner we had a cool Night Walk to see what was lurking in the darkness. Very cool. Afterwards a little chill time before tucking under the netting in the darkness listening to the creatures of the night.
