With covid taking a breather (and looking back, many people hoped that it would die out completely that summer) and all Brevets and the majority of other events cancelled, I was delighted that one of the events I had registered had somehow survived the cut. Staying entirely within the borders of Germany, the Berlin-Munich-Berlin unsurprisingly heads from Berlin to Munich and back again. The route is mandatory, some parts an out-and-back route but with some diversions taking in Leipzig (and Dresden if the full fat version is ridden). It would be a great opportunity to see many new parts of the country that has been my home for a number of years now. Training for the event was a mixed bag. With all official brevets cancelled and meetups severely limited this involved a lot of solo riding, a number of 150-200km distance rides and a 2 day 550km kit test starting in Bavaria and riding north, deep into Lower Saxony. In the days leading up the event it looked like a heatwave was coming. I'm pretty useless in hot weather. This will be interesting...
