Join me on a winter journey from Bergen to Stavanger. It’s January, and the day starts quietly on the Kystbussen(coastal bus) before sunrise. The roads are dark and calm, and a bit later we board a large ferry to cross the fjord—there’s a café on board, plenty of seating, and even a play area. I grab a small bite to eat and enjoy the slow crossing. #stavanger #norway #citywalk #citywalks #city #citylife Arriving in Stavanger, I head out on foot to explore. The first stop is the train station, where vibrant murals cover the walls—art that somehow looks even more beautiful under the soft lighting of winter. I walk through the city center, past small lakes and peaceful streets. The houses here are mostly wooden, some colorful, and many filled with cozy shops and cafés. At one point I pass a quiet pond, where glowing red hearts hang from the trees above—like tiny pieces of warmth in the winter dusk. Not far from the Oil Museum, I find Geoparken—a creative city park made from repurposed oil industry materials. It’s full of unexpected shapes, textures, and playful energy, built as a tribute to Stavanger’s deep ties to offshore oil and design. As night falls, I stumble into Glød, Stavanger’s light festival, part of the city’s 900-year anniversary. Around Domkirkeplassen, glowing installations rise into the sky—soft arcs of light, moving gently with the sound. One piece, Beacon of Light, blends music, light, and architecture into something otherworldly. It’s beautiful, dreamy, and invites you to just stop and breathe. The next day, the sun returns. I meet a few elegant swans grooming themselves by the little lake near the center, before continuing toward the harbor. I stop by Fretex, a secondhand shop filled with treasures—everything from wool sweaters with classic Norwegian patterns to vintage ice skates and delicate objects. I pass more shopping streets, then wander by two of Stavanger’s churches. The Stavanger Cathedral is Norway’s oldest still-standing cathedral—dating back to the 1100s—and it’s been in use for centuries. Nearby, St. Petri Church from 1866 stands quietly by the square. Finally, I walk into Fargegaten, Stavanger’s most colorful street. Brightly painted houses, tiny boutiques, lively cafés—it’s cheerful and creative, and the perfect way to wrap up a slow, thoughtful journey through this unique city. ⸻ This is a walk through light, history, street art, secondhand treasures, and quiet January moments. A soft look at Stavanger, far from summer crowds, but full of life in its own way. ⸻ 📍 Locations Visited: – Kystbussen & Ferry – Stavanger City Center – Train Station Murals – Geoparken – Fargegaten (Øvre Holmegate) – Fretex Secondhand Shop – Stavanger Cathedral & St. Petri Church – Domkirkeplassen – Glød Light Festival ⸻ #stavanger #norwaytravel #winterinnorway #glød #lightfestival #fargegaten #kystbussen #fretex #secondhandfinds #geoparken #visitstavanger #travelvlog #slowtravel #scandinavianvibes #cozywalks #urbanexploration #stavangerdomkirke #trainstationmurals #walkinginnorway #nordictravel
