Abraham and Lot

Abraham and his nephew Lot left their homeland together to settle in the land of Canaan. Having become too wealthy and possessing too many flocks to remain on the same land, they decided to separate: Abraham generously gave Lot the first choice, and he chose the fertile plain of the Jordan River and settled near the city of Sodom. Later, Abraham had to intervene militarily to save Lot during a local war, and then interceded with God to try to save his city from destruction. Finally, when God destroyed Sodom because of its wickedness, angels allowed Lot and his family to escape, although his wife was turned into a pillar of salt for looking back. The story ends with the final separation of their lineages, Abraham becoming the father of the Hebrew people while Lot fathered the neighboring peoples (Moabites and Ammonites).
