#69 A Ridge TOO FAR? A Big Job is Underway on the Roof at Our Old Stone House & Barn Restoration

Things are starting to get exciting at Casa das Parreirinhas as we embark on one of the biggest projects so far–repairing and restoring the roof of one of our barn outbuildings (where we’ll also be living short-term). Michael gets to work removing the lathes, and, while we're waiting for delivery of the new wood (we’ve managed to locate some rustic Douglas Pine from a local woodyard), he goes back to finish off the main house doorway. With the stonemasonry complete and the antique doorbell installed… you'd think someone had already moved in! Michael also takes time out to keep up his high score with his Portuguese practice on ‪@duolingo‬! With our A2 language tests booked for November this year (a step toward getting Portuguese citizenship), the race is on to learn the language! About Us 🏚️👫🏼🐈🐕🐕 We're Michael & Becci (the humans) and Tilly (sassy English tortoiseshell cat), Alfie and Anoushka (Portuguese rescue dogs). After four years in Portugal and numerous dreams about renovating our own property, we've taken the plunge and are renovating a schist stone house and its outbuildings in Figueiró dos Vinhos. We're doing most of the work ourselves (or... Michael is!) and we'll be stepping back in time to create a character property with as many original features and antiques as possible.
