Looking at the extraordinary death toll in Gaza and the devastation—often described as resembling the aftermath of multiple Hiroshima-scale bombs—many people conclude that Benjamin Netanyahu, who ordered these actions, must be a maniac or a psychopath. But what do Israelis themselves think? It’s possible that what seems obvious to outsiders is not how the situation is perceived from within Israel. After all, Israelis are the ones operating inside the political system that will either keep Netanyahu in power or ultimately force him out—short of a foreign coup or some other extraordinary intervention.
