Palmer is home to roughly 6,000 residents and sits in the fertile Matanuska-Susitna Valley, one of Alaska’s most beautiful regions. From here we visit the breathtaking Matanuska Glacier, one of the largest road-accessible glaciers in the United States. Following the powerful Matanuska River, we stop at Matanuska River Park for sweeping views of the valley and the Chugach Mountains. Next, our RV climbs into the dramatic alpine landscapes of Hatcher Pass, where we explore the historic gold mining town at Independence Mine State Historical Park. We then continue to Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage, with a population of about 290,000 residents, nestled between Cook Inlet and the towering Chugach Mountains. Along the way we stop at: • Reflections Lake for stunning mountain reflections • The incredible tidal wetlands of Haystack Flats • Wildlife viewing at Potter Marsh • Cultural experiences at the Alaska Native Heritage Center If you love RV travel, glaciers, wildlife, and epic landscapes, this Alaska road trip is one you won’t want to miss.
