#DTC #delhicrime #jhandewalan #Mangolpuri #Delhipolice The Central District Police of Delhi have busted a notorious interstate gang involved in thefts in public transport, particularly DTC buses. The team of PS DBG Road arrested three key accused, including the mastermind of the Gujarat-based gang, along with a jeweller who allegedly purchased the stolen gold. Police recovered gold and silver jewellery, 14.250 grams of melted gold, and ₹86,000 in cash from their possession. According to DCP Central Anant Mittal, a complaint was lodged on February 5 by Vikas Kumar, who reported that his bag was slit and jewellery stolen while he was travelling in a DTC bus near Jhandewalan. Taking the matter seriously, a special team was constituted under the supervision of ACP Paharganj Saurabh A. Anand and led by SHO Inspector Randhir Singh. The team, comprising SI Harvinder Singh, Head Constables Manish and Suneet Kumar, and Constables Ravi and Saurabh, examined hundreds of CCTV footages from the bus route and surrounding areas. With the help of technical surveillance, including CDR analysis and Net Grid technology, police identified the suspects after noticing suspicious movements of a woman linked to the gang. Acting on secret information, police conducted coordinated raids at two locations in Mangolpuri on the intervening night of February 14 and 15. The mastermind Devdiya Dipubhai (43), along with Abhishek (24) and Arunaben (34), were arrested. All three are residents of Bhavnagar, Gujarat. During interrogation, they revealed that they had specifically come to Delhi to commit thefts in crowded public buses. Investigations revealed that the gang used a method known as the “Surround and Shield” technique. Members would encircle the victim inside a crowded bus, restricting movement and visibility. One member would then use a sharp tool to slit the victim’s bag and remove valuables, while others shielded him from detection. After committing the crime, they would get off at different bus stops to avoid suspicion. The accused confessed to selling two stolen gold bangles to a jeweller, Dayal Poddar, in Mangolpuri. He was also detained, and 14.250 grams of melted gold were recovered from him. Further investigation is underway to identify other accomplices and uncover additional cases linked to the gang.
