Historian and author, Dr, Vikram Sampath discusses his new book 'Tipu Sultan- The Saga of Mysore's Interregnum (1760–1799)' in an exclusive interview with News9's Kartikeya. He sheds light on the controversial figure and his contested legacy and says that to a large extent, he's been whitewashed by past historians. He also says that to a large extent, Tipu Sultan was a religious bigot, and he practised many discriminatory practices against Hindus. Not only this, he was influenced by Wahhabism and converted a large number of Hindus and Christians in the Mysore empire. He also says that Tipu Sultan has been hailed as a hero because he fought the British, but he did take help from the French to do so. He goes on to say that Tipu Sultan can be considered as the Aurangzeb of South India.
