Earlier this week, we did a fundraiser to rescue a confirmed pregnant, registered Belgian Draft horse mare and gelding from shipping to slaughter! I have been watching Bowie Texas Livestocks website all last week because they had a confirmed pregnant, registered Belgian Draft horse mare who is due in June. This poor horse was dumped after having 3 foals for the person who previously owned her. While looking through the website, there was also a senior gelding that looks extremely stiff in the back end. Also, on the ship list was a white Percheron mare who was dumped as well after working her whole life...she still has shoes on! An anonymous donor reached out to me and wanted to help save some of the horses on the ship list as this person couldn't bear to see baby horses ship to slaughter. The anonymous donor made us a deal, if we would fundraise for the pregnant mare and gelding the donor would cover the full bail for the percheron mare. Of course we said yes! SO...we raised the funds we needed to save the two (well 3) lives from shipping to slaughter! Yesterday, 2/19/25 while I was on Facebook, I noticed I was tagged in a post for 2 Belgian Draft horse mares at Panhandle Feedlot and Kill Pen horses. The livestock yard video showed that they came in together and would look for each other if they were separated. This broke my heart! I count bear the thought of them being separated or sent to slaughter. I told Cory about them and he said if they were still available when I arrived in McLean to pick up the 3 from Bowie, then I should save them as well! Of Course when I arrived, they were available! SO...we had 2 extra travelers on our freedom ride today! This video is about the 2 extra travelers and the freedom ride for the pregnant mare, Belgian Draft horse gelding and white percheron. We still need to cover the cost of their bail, so we have set up a fundraiser to help with the expenses. All the details of the fundraiser are at www.bighooffoundation.org As a growing horse rescue group, we rely on monetary donations to keep the organization moving forward. The Big Hoof Foundation will always be transparent with how your donations are used. 100% of the money we raise goes directly to the rescued horses' bail fees, transport, feed, hay, medical bills, medications, alternative medical treatments, supplements, surgeries, etc. Every dollar raised is for the horses! We have a fundraiser going for all the medical bills for the 54 equines we have rescued since the beginning of September. We could definitely use your support with this fundraiser. All the details of the fundraiser along with copies of the medical bills are at www.bighooffoundation.org We hope you enjoy this video! If you would like to send a gift/donation of feed (Alfa Pro or beardless wheat) you can send that through our local feed store, HF & C Amarillo. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo/Big Hoof Foundation and they will add the gifts to our account. We are feeding the herd round bales of beardless wheat and the horses go through about 6 bales every few days. A round bale of beardless wheat is $140. We also use small square bales of beardless wheat and can be purchased through HF&C Amarillo for $14.95 each. Our special needs horses also eat Alfa-Pro which is a complete pelleted alfalfa mixed with vitamins and minerals. Alfa-Pro is $17.45 per bag. They do offer a discount if you purchase by the pallet (40 - 50 pound bags) $16.95 per bag if purchased by the pallet.
