All children experience fevers, and in most cases, they recover entirely within a few days. If your child's body temperature is higher than usual, they may have a fever. When taking a temperature by mouth, 98.6°F is considered normal. Some doctors request that your rectal temperature be checked for your infant or young child. 99.6°F is considered normal for that procedure. The most frequent cause of fever in children is the virus. Each year, young children may experience seven to ten viral illnesses accompanied by fever, particularly if they attend daycare or preschool, where viruses are frequently transferred among the kids. Bacteria are the second most frequent cause of infection. Either kind of infection can bring on a fever. The presence of a fever is an indication that the body is effectively combating and overcoming an infection. Your body raises your core temperature via a chemical process to thwart harmful viruses and bacteria replication.
