Surajkund mishap: Inspector Jagdish Prasad’s family mourns after he dies rescuing others

Family members of Haryana Police Inspector Jagdish Prasad mourned his death as his last rites were performed in Mathura, remembering him as a caring man who dreamed of a peaceful life after retirement. The 58-year-old officer lost his life on Saturday evening in Faridabad while trying to rescue people trapped after a swing collapsed at the Surajkund International Crafts Mela. According to family members, Prasad rushed towards the ‘Tsunami’ swing when it snapped mid-air but was critically injured when a portion of the ride fell on him. He is survived by his wife Sudha, two daughters and a son. Some relatives alleged negligence, claiming that adequate safety measures were not in place at the fair. Several injured victims are undergoing treatment at hospitals. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said free treatment is being provided to 11 victims, along with financial assistance for those critically injured.
