Newly typeset score in Dorico notation software, with playback by Noteperformer instruments. [00:00] Forspill [04:38] Prolog Ole Olsen's (1850–1927) opera Stallo, composed in 1899 (or 1902 according to some sources), is set to a text by the composer. It was never staged in the composer's lifetime, as a planned performance had been rejected by the conductor Johan Halvorsen due to its gloomy subject matter and for the perceived difficulties in the parts of the vocal soloists. The opera received its world premiere in Kristiansund in 2002. The story of Stallo is set in 17th century Finnmark, and the titular character is an evil fairytale character from Sámi legends. The opera is set in four acts: a prologue, acts 1 and 2 and an epilogue. Here in the prologue, the two old Sámi gods Adja and Akko lament the fading relevance of Sámi gods as the influence of Christianity continues to spread among the people. They summon the spirits of the air and Stallo himself, who they put to the task of killing a geologist, who has come from the south in search of silver in the Laplands, and to seduce a Sámi chieftain Vuolle's daughter, in order to dissuade the Sámi people of further placing their trust in Christ. The warnings of Adja given to Stallo hint at future events to come in the later acts of the opera.
