Family mourns New Bedford woman fatally struck

Family members of a 70-year-old New Bedford woman, who prosecutors say was hit and killed by a truck, described her as the person who held their family together, speaking out just hours after her funeral. The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Mary Ptaszenski was walking with a friend at 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Route 18 and Coggeshall Street when a truck struck both of them.
