Kool Kordz CXIV #114 Transposing Bach for use in your own improvisations BACH TO THE FUTURE Steps 1. Original Key/Piece Memorise it. Use no eyes, just touch. Hear every pitch and sing every pitch. 2. Locate the 3rds and 6ths (they are everywhere) 3. Find your favourite phrase and transpose small sections of the piece. 4. Look for mistakes! Quite often when we play mistakes we are exploring new things in our playing and harmonic comprehension. If you are playing the same mistake over and over again, it is then time to address the mistake, as you have probably ceased benefiting from the quandary. 5. Start transposing the entire piece. Start in relative keys. In this instance the closest relatives of C minor are F Minor and G minor. 6. Focus on the last section. It is a doozy. 7. Write your own prelude!!!! GENERAL NOTES Play in tempo (metronome) or out of tempo (no metronome) or the other way around. Constantly vary your combinations both from the steps, and from the hands. Look at the harmony of each chord and what scale would fit best. Gradually increase tempo SING THE NOTES! USE YOUR EARS Individualise the exercise. Become yourself and............. Have Fun Disclaimer ******* For educational purposes only to aid discussion and promote jazz in general. Sometimes the simple things can be the most challenging. I find that by mastering the inherent simplicity in songs and pieces I can go further into complexity with more confidence. There are some sheets that some of my inspirational teachers and I have written out (not in collaboration). Some of the exercises are my own work, others I have simply interpreted or wrote down to further the message of them from my own perspective. The PDF folder is a work in progress. Like all Jazz/Music education it continues to evolve. I will continue to update this folder with the material that I make on the video. The order of progress for me is, practice, make the video, and then write it down.
