My biggest question on my yurt tour video was how do I cook, wash dishes, do laundry, charge my devices and go to the bathroom when my off grid yurt doesn't have wifi, electricity, running water, a bathroom or a kitchen? I answer in detail in this video but the simple response is: I do those things outside or borrow from other buildings on and off the property! I'm super grateful for the number of views I've gotten on my yurt tour video and the number of positive and encouraging responses. I've also gotten a lot of hate comments and reactions of anger and disgust along the lines of "you will fail at this come winter," "you must live with your parents," or "this is glorified homelessness," "you live in a dump." Before you comment about the yurt not holding up for the winter: the last people who owned it lived full time in Western WA in the yurt for 7+ years and there is minimal mouse damage and no mold or mildew on the inner layer of the yurt. Friendly reminder that at no point am I saying everyone needs to live like me. I have never been a "normal" person and am not interested in "normal" life or the typical American Dream. Living for 10 years in a major city renting places with comfortable amenities was soul sucking for me. My dream has always been to build my own small house out of natural materials, live a frugal life that is not driven by the constant need for more money, to care for a variety of animals including horses and dogs, to grow and forage my own food, to live with community and be deeply invested in my local area, and to have plenty of time to make art. I am at the beginning of my journey but finally all those goals are within my reach for the next 1-10 years and I could not be happier. By living as minimally as possible, paying off all my debt and working multiple jobs I am saving up to start tackling my other goals.
