Abandoned Shed to Cozy Tiny House Conversion | START to FINISH

It still feels a bit surreal, but it’s official—I now own four acres in Western North Carolina. The place is a mess, badly trashed by the previous owners, but I’m telling myself it’s mostly cosmetic. Most folks probably wouldn’t have touched it with a ten-foot pole, which likely worked in my favor when it came to the price. But I see a diamond in the rough. Mom came out today and helped me get started. We cleared some brush and uncovered a few of the trash heaps, just to get a better sense of what I’m working with. As the sun set and the temperature dropped, I turned in for my first night on the land—excited, but a little overwhelmed too. There’s a lot of work ahead. … October 16th. My first night in the shed house. Followed by the most satisfying cup of coffee I’ve had in nine months—and a quiet morning to reflect. They say the harder you work for something, the better it feels when you finally get it. And I can say without a doubt—they’re right. This project has stretched me in every way imaginable. It’s tested my patience, persistence, and creativity. But it’s also been deeply rewarding - equal parts challenge and joy. There’s still plenty ahead - building furniture, shaping terraces, turning this space into a true homestead—but this morning, I’m content to sit in the stillness, surrounded by the proof of months of sweat and stubborn determination. I’m thankful for this small home, for this patch of land, and for everything it’s taught me.
